For
over a decade, Socio Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS) has
been at the forefront of tobacco control efforts in Bihar and Jharkhand,
driving change through strategic partnerships, policy advocacy, and community
mobilization. Established as a national-level nonprofit organization, SEEDS has
earned recognition as an Anti-Tobacco crusader, committed to protecting lives
and building healthier communities.
Since
April 2010, SEEDS has joined hands with the State Health Society, Bihar, as a
key state partner, and has worked in close coordination with The UNION (South-East
Asia Office, New Delhi) to advance the goals of the Cigarettes and Other
Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. Over the past eleven years, SEEDS has
played a pivotal role in supporting the State Tobacco Control Cell (STCC) to
implement laws, advocate for stronger enforcement, and drive impactful policy
decisions and government notifications ensuring compliance across departments
at both state and district levels.
Currently,
SEEDS is partnering with the State Health Society, Government of Bihar, and all
38 District Tobacco Control Cells to strengthen COTPA enforcement, promote
awareness, and reduce tobacco consumption. Extending its reach, SEEDS has also
collaborated with the Government of Jharkhand to implement tobacco control
programs in six intervention districts Bokaro, Dhanbad, East Singhbhum,
Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Ranchi under the Bloomberg Initiatives grant with
technical guidance from The UNION.
